2019 Fall Events

Hey, Neighbors!
There's lots happening at EVNA this fall, and you'll want to mark these important events and dates now for maximum fun and engagement.
It's Movie Night Again!

Our 2nd annual Neighborhood Movie Night- Saturday 9/28,

6:45pm - 10:00pm, Rikki Streicher Baseball Field at the Eureka Valley Rec Center (corner of Diamond and 19th

Streets). We're showing "E.T!" a sci-fi classic that will warm your heart as you enjoy a flashback from your childhood. Bring the kids! Admission is free. Bring blankets, warm clothes, and lawn chairs. Concessions will be available.

November Public Meeting Date Rescheduled
November's public meeting is moved to Wednesday, Nov 20th at 7:00pm at the Rec Center. (The original date was going to be 11/27, the eve of Thanksgiving, but we're moving it a week ahead so you

can spend the time with family). Join us for elections, enjoy cider and donuts while we change up the meeting format to enjoy each other's company before Thanksgiving!

Changes to the ByLaws
There's a proposed amendment to the ByLaws which the board voted on this month and now brings to the September public meeting for member approval. The amendment includes discussion regarding a code of conduct by members and a process to rescind membership under certain extreme situations. You can view the proposed language by clicking this link. You'll not want to miss this meeting.
EVNA Board Elections in November
November is election month, and it's fast approaching. We have half the board up for election, and there are leadership positions open. I invite everyone who lives in the EVNA footprint over 18 to consider running. Hone your leadership skills, accomplish great things for your fellow humans, work with your neighbors to make a better community- you can achieve these laudable goals and more just by serving on the board for a two year stint! Contact Mark D McHale for more details. Get your name in before 10/31/19 to be on the ballot for November's public meeting.
Castro Welcome Packets
You've probably heard about the 2019 Welcome Packets campaign. Our association volunteers have been delivering these packets to new residents moving into the neighborhood each quarter: as a welcome and an invitation to join the EVNA... the next list we get will be in January 2020, so stay tuned. We'll schedule the assembly and delivery dates in February 2020 soon and let you know when you can help.

Castro Welcome pack kick off this week

The long awaited Castro Welcome Pack campaign is ready for delivery! We've got our backs packed (so to speak!), we have about 100 addresses, and now all we need is our volunteers to pick 'em up and get 'em delivered!

You've been hearing for several months now that the EVNA is launching a quarterly program to welcome all new residents to the neighborhood with a "Hello!" and a wine tote gift bag that includes information about EVNA and also promotes our local businesses with coupons and specials. I can't think of a better way to make sure those moving into the neighborhood feel connected and cared for from the start!

The delivery process goes something like this: you and a friend pick up about 10-15 of the pre-assembled, pre-addressed gift bags, and get them delivered before the end of April- anytime that works for you and your side-kick (we recommend teams of 2 people). The idea is to meet new residents face to face, say hello and welcome to the neighborhood, share a little bit about yourself, the Castro, and invite them to check out EVNA and to stop in the shops and restaurants with these specials included in the gift bag. Sounds pretty fun and easy! We've got a conversation guide if you need it, and a system to deal with recipients who might not be home the first time.

Volunteers had a great time putting all the bags together, and it's going to be a lot of fun getting them delivered. I know from experience, that the more I invest my time in helping others to feel connected, I somehow walk away with the same gift- it's a great feeling. If you'd like to help with delivery of the Castro Welcome Packs, email me and I'll get you connected!

Castro Welcome Pack delivery starts in April

Ever think about what it would be like to actually meet your neighbors and spend some time talking with them and getting to know them (and not just typing at them on Facebook or NextDoor)?

We're inviting you to get out of the house and be a part of welcoming our newest neighbors to the Castro/Eureka Valley. Every quarter, starting in April.

EVNA (your neighborhood group) is launching the Castro Welcome Pack... think "welcome wagon"... we've committed to welcoming every new neighbor in the hood with a little gift and a human "hello"... would you be interested in joining us?

Share some of our history, tell 'em your fave restaurants, point to the library, the museum, show 'em the flag...share with them some of the excitement and passion for why we love our neighborhood so much!

We're going to have our first volunteer orientation meeting on March 30th at 10:00am- location tbd. We'll introduce you to our cool new Welcome Pack, go over the contents, review talking points and nail down logistics. This is an authentic and genuine welcome, and not a sales pitch.

(The Welcome Pack is a Castro branded wine tote with coupons and discounts from local Castro Merchants to encourage residents to support, shop, and dine locally).

It's a great way to welcome new residents, help them feel connected and engaged from the get-go, and for you to make some lasting friendships!

Let’s Get the Word Out…

EVNA Members-

We're looking for volunteers to help invite neighbors to our next general meeting in late May.

We'll meet Saturday May 12 AND Saturday May 19th at 10:00am at 221 Eureka Street, and the plan is to take a couple blocks each and place door hangers on every door we see.

As easy as you want to make it- if you'd like to knock and talk- that's great, or if you'd prefer to just tag the door handle and skidaddle, that's ok, too!

Can we count on you to help? Please email me with your "YES!"... mark.mchale@evna.org

Looking for Some Talent…

Members- I need your help! As you know, we've made great gains this year getting our association set up, staffed, and activated once again. It's been an amazing journey, and I'm always thinking about what I can do to make it even better, and who can help me make it so for us.

I'm looking for a few special people with some very important skills... might this be you, or someone you know who is looking for a volunteer gig?

1) A Social Media and Marketing Campaign Manager. I'm looking for a creative and passionate person to help EVNA get the word out about who we are, what we do, and how others can plug in. The right person will have exceptional skills and creative ideas in the social media/marketing space to help us create and implement a consistent and branded message to encourage membership, acknowledge our heroes, call for attendance, and celebrate volunteerism right here in the hood.

2) Business Development Guru- help EVNA create a comprehensive financial model that will help us grow (appropriately) our inbound revenue stream and outbound support and grant giving capacity. This could really be a an exciting project: can you imagine bringing together corporate sponsors, local businesses, and our members/ residents to create a full cycle financial model of mutual support and benefit- OMG! (Sounds weird, but I can explain).

Ping me- I'm the prez, and I can get you introduced to the right people to put your talents to work! mark.mchale@evna.org.

Trust me- this volunteering stuff is way better than you can imagine sitting in front of your computer right now. You'll feel better you got involved.
